Preacher's Pulpit Series #8
Comrades, greetings in the name of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. One thing that I do not like about organized religion is that too often I have seen the church let new converts slip through the cracks and go out the back door. Some places are interested in numbers and they pride themselves on how many people get saved each Sunday. They will give them a little book, pray with them, and then send them on their way (Come back next Sunday!). I have too often seen the newly converted at the altar with a big question mark over their heads at the end of a service wondering, “Now what?” If you are a mature Christian let me suggest that you help disciple one or more of the newly saved. This is what we are called to do. You may have a special calling or ministry in your life but all of us are called to teach the new Christian. This is part of the great commission that Jesus gave to his people in Mat. 28:19. When a person first gets saved the angels are throwing a party because a new name is written in the Book of Life but, the devil is thoroughly angry that he has lost another soul to Jesus and he will pull out all of the stops to try and get him back. The Word says in 1Pet. 5:8, “Be sober , be vigilant ; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about , seeking whom he may devour :”
If you are a mature Christian then let me challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and take one of these new converts under your wing. I know you wouldn’t let one of your own children get eaten by a lion. Well, these are God’s children and your little brothers and sisters. What do you think God would say to you if you had the opportunity to teach and help one of His children and you told him you didn’t have the time. That they would have to fend for themselves. I don’t think that God would take too kindly to that. He might even tell that lion to go and naw on you a bit.
If you are a newly born Christian and wondering what in the world is happening to you let me suggest that you find a mature Christian that knows how to walk the walk and battle the enemy and walk with him or her. Learn from them. Emulate them. Ask questions. Let them show you how to put on your armour and stand against the devil. This is a must if you intend to survive this war and if you get knocked down, get back up again. Our struggle here on earth is nothing compared to the glory we will receive if we don’t give up the fight. Carry on Christian soldiers!
May the Lord
bless you and keep you in his hands till we meet again. Chaplain King
