Preacher’s Pulpit

Comrades, greetings in the name of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I hope everyone had a blessed Resurrection Day!  I am writing this on Resurrection Day.  I am sitting here at work separated from my family and alone with Jesus.  Quite interesting is the fact that the machine I was working on this morning broke down and my boss said to let it go until Monday.  I guess that the Lord must want me to write about things that pertain to the Kingdom.  God works in mysterious ways!

There are a lot of thoughts that go through my head on a day such as this so let me see if I can sort them out and write down what the Spirit wants me to.  To me, on a day such as this, one can’t help but think of salvation and the awful price that was paid for it.  It is only through the shedding of the blood of the pure and stainless sacrifice of Jesus that we can be saved.  Perhaps, it is because I deserved a horrible death and eternal damnation that I am so grateful for what Jesus has done.  I wonder sometimes about those that have lived a so called “good life” all of their lives and how some of them take their salvation so lightly.  I am not judging them but it scares me for their sakes.  Eternity is not a condition to be taken lightly.  How many times has the devil tried to kill you?  Is that what it takes to come to Jesus?  Perhaps it is because I have come so close to spending eternity in hell that I am so grateful that Jesus saved my soul.  I wonder about how we can act like a fool cheering on our favorite football team and don’t care what people think about us but we can’t shout out with glee the wonderful things that Jesus has done for us because that would be “undignified”.  Well, let me be undignified then!

In the book of Luke, Chapt. 19:40, Jesus says that if his disciples hold their peace that the very stones would cry out.  This happened, of course, when the dignified church leaders heard the congregation making a ruckus.  In the Old Testament, Is. 55:12, it says that the trees of the fields will clap their hands.  So, go ahead on this day of salvation and be undignified in church and raise the roof shouting the wonderful works of God!

Nature itself reminds us of the new birth in Jesus.  It is no accident that new life and beauty spring forth at this time of year as a reminder of the new life and beauty we have in Jesus.  Even the dogwood tree has beautiful blossoms that bear the nail holes of our Savior.   Everywhere you look we are reminded of the beauty of Christ and what He has done for us.

So, let me take this opportunity now to ask you, “Are you saved?”  If not, then say these simple words and mean them with all your heart, “God, please save me from my sins.  Jesus, I ask you to be my Savior.  Wash me in your blood and forgive me of my sins.  Please, come into my heart and be my Lord.  Show me the path to righteousness and guide me on my way.  I am here to serve you the rest of my days.  Amen.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in his hands till we meet again.    Chaplain King
